RSN Certificate - Jacobean

Below are the images of my Jacobean module in progress. I have also written a blog post about this module - RSN Certificate - Jacobean . The overall piece became know as the Pesky Peacock - a name given by one of my tutors. The piece is now known as the Pesky Peacock.

The first image below is taken in Royal Arcade and is the inspiration for my peacock. It’s amazing where you can find inspiration for embroidery.

A jacobean designed leaf with a central stem worked in raised stem band in various shades of blue

Raised Stem Band

The image on the right shows the completed raised stem band for the main leaf design worked in all the shades of blue. I really enjoyed working this stem and this was also one of the first areas worked.

part of jacobean design showing a pomegranate and flower, partly worked in orange red colours

Trellis and Block Shading

Both Trellis and Block Shading are required stitches and I chose to work a simple trellis in the centre of the pomegranate shape and block shading on one of the flowers. The picture on the left shows both stitches at an early stage and also the Orange Red range of Appletons wools

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Close up detail of pomegranate design showing trellis stitch in orange, burden stitch in orange and blue shaded buttonhole stitch

Pomegranate worked in Burden Stitch

The trellis centre of the pomegranate is now completed and the main areas were worked in Burden Stitch - which was shaded using all the orange/red colours, with the base stitches worked in both accent colours. The buttonhole stitch just neatens the edges. The leaves are still to be worked.

Stitch and Colour Plan for Peacock Tail

The peacock tail stitch plan and colour plan took some time to work out and was one of the last part of the design to be worked out. In the bottom of the picture you can see some of the extra design elements that were added to balance the design.

Reverse of the completed project

Once an embroidery is mounted the reverse of the work is covered for ever - only to be seen if the work is remounted. I’m pleased how neat I managed to keep this one
